A summary, not legal advice.

WHY IT MATTERS

Video apps on a TV are often awkward with a remote or tied to Google services. SmartTube offers a TV-shaped interface for browsing and playing content from public sources, and says it does not require Google Services.

BUILD FROM THIS

A clean TV interface with adjustable playback speed, 60fps, HDR and 8K support, live chat, customizable buttons and SponsorBlock integration. The app has a built-in updater with a changelog.

WHO IT'S FOR

People who watch video on an Android TV or TV box.

START IN 5 MINUTES

# Install a downloader app on the TV and enter the address given in the README to fetch the installer. It is not on any app store.

CAVEATS

Not for phones or tablets, Samsung Tizen, LG webOS or Apple TV, and not for Fire TVs running VegaOS (from October 2025). Comments are unstable. The author's development environment was once infected with malware and a few builds may have been affected, so read the README notice first. Files from app stores or APK sites are warned against.
